Expected Results

Overall the specific objectives and activities of the LINEup research are linked to the following expected results:

N. Research ActivityExpected Result
1Carry out a systematic literature review of the grey and academic literature on studies with a longitudinal research design on inequalities in education.Describe
1) the variables identifued as factors of educational inequalities in literature,
2) some of the longitudinal studies relevant for the project,
3) the main techniquaes used to assess educational inequalities.
2Carry out a comprehensive desk research to identify existing national and regional longitudinal datasets from 31 countries.Provide a comprehensive mapping on the availability, use and possible exploitation of existing longitudinal data on students' learning outcomes.
3Evaluate quality and findings of the identified datasets in the six countries of the consortium and those available from other countriesObtain an overview of the quality of the longitudinal data and identify trends in educational inequalities over time.
4Assess to what extent datasets can be made comparable in terms of variables, coding structure, and scores measuring students' achievements.Deliver a feasibility study potentially supporting a database homogenisation process to make data from different studies partially of fully comparable.
5Use existing longitudinal data in the project countries to zoom on high/low achieving schools.Gather insights on how longitudinal data can support good practice identification and analysis.
6Carry out qualitative research in project countries to put data into context and investigate measures supporting students' school engangement and equity.Assess what schools can do to keep students engaged and reduce inequalities in the short, medium and long run.
7Build upon the different phases of the project and engage external stakeholders to validate and exploit project results.Develop recommendations for researches, practitioners and policymakers supporting more effective approaches to educational inequalities.
